Simplicity Has A Cost8/16/2021 I have lost interest in supplements, bio-hacking and so many alt-health concepts that I was once preoccupied with. The studies of many of the health products and ideas that are now popular do not take factors such as environment, location, light, technology, etc into account when drawing conclusions. I did worked in the supplement industry for many years, so I was constantly pitched all the latest & greatest products. I still take a few key supplements, so I won't throw the baby out with the bath water, but there is so much bath water. I don't miss working in the supplement industry, when I left I found it to be downright gross and full of misinformation. Leaving CA over a year ago allowed me to simplify my life in many ways. I take daily walks with my dog in the sunshine every morning. I listen to Alan Watts. My wife and I have been able to garden and I really appreciate eating food right off my plants. We have more cucumbers than we know what to do with, cabbage, tomatoes, and more. Our blueberry bushes are still babies but they still produced some delicious berries. We have apple trees and our pumpkin patch is out of control. We also managed to get fresh eggs which has been a fun experience. We are still enjoying the raw milk, beef and sausage from our local farmer. Angela has mastered the art of sourdough bread baking. She also makes raw yogurts from our milk that I eat each morning with with steal cut oats. I am a realtor now and really enjoying what I do. We were recently able to purchase some land near our home. We got 7.5 acres of land that's partly cleared, partly wooded with a southern facing hill and a good creek that flows year round. I saw some fish there fish yesterday. I enjoy going there to think like I used to at the creek running through San Luis Obispo, CA. We plan to use this land for plants, bees, maybe even some animals in the future. We are starting the process to add a well and septic. My primary goal is to one day put a log cabin on it and grow old. I see the things that are happening in the world. The simple life has many costs. I enjoy the work it requires and am so glad to be where I am. Nothing is certain but I just wanted to let everyone know that it is possible to move. I have never been so healthy. There are no cheats in life, everyone has to earn the life they want or settle for the one they don't. I have had several phases in my life and have not taken many relationships with me. I grew up in Rochester, NY until I was 18. I spent the next 10 years in Indiana where I finished college and was married. The next decade brought me to California where I went through a divorce and learned to be on my own. My 4th decade of life has landed me in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as a husband and parent to Angela and Caden. These different phases seem so strange and sometimes I wonder how I got here as it seems like a dream. I was so different from who I am today in each prior decade of my life. After leaving CA I realized no one really noticed, and maybe that is why most people don't ever move away; they don't want to find out if they mattered or not. I don't do much social media these days, but if you are receiving, this we have likely crossed paths. Please feel free to reach out to me. I miss having deep conversations about health and life and all the rest. Next Blog

Good to hear about your life, Rob! We are also enjoying gardening and reaping good harvests of eggplant, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cabbage, greens, and cucumbers. We may put a couple cows on our pasture this next year and try raising our own beef. We have 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 dogs...so far. It's been a huge change and I'm liking it! We are homeschooling our boys in a small co-op community, which is wonderful! John's job at a local hop, apple and cherry farm is going well! Send hugs to Angela and Caedin! -Joy

Isolation is a sticky subject, but getting to a place of not caring about what those around you think is a good milestone. Social media has a large hand in society’s self esteem issues. Getting off the grid was the best move you’ll ever make. Your property sounds epic. Congratulations to you and your family!

Hi Rob. I noticed that you left immediately when i went to cal fresh and you were not there. So , you matter and i am so happy to hear how life is going for you and you family. You inspire me and give me the courage to move. We are still looking at Greeneville Tennesee . We have visited but plan to go back to look for land. There are many homesteaders there which is encouraging. EVen though my husband and i are in our sixties, i still want to believe we can still grow a garden adn have bees and maybe some chickens and over livestock. Keep posting your blogs, they help me and encourage me. Take care and we will talk soon.
