My Healthy Home (pics and tips)
I moved last summer from the Central Coast of CA to Ironwood, MI. Since then my life has become more simplified, which was my goal. I have never been so healthy. In the past I was into various health hacks and gimmicks. The truth is there are no cheats (except one) that I know of that truly work. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all hacks, but this is what I do in my location. What you do to optimize your situation should be different depending on your current health, location, environment, etc, but hopefully this blog will give you some ideas that may be relevant to you and your situation.
This is my cozy little house. I was careful to get a home that wasn't bigger than we really needed, since heating can be costly and cumbersome in such a cold climate with long winters and we don't enjoy tending to unused space. I do cryotherapy and cold adaptation with HITT training in the winter.....often in the form of shoveling snow. While most of my neighbors push or drive snow blowers around to do all the work for them, I prefer to use my environment as a means to condition my body. Yes, it takes more time and effort, but for me the benefits outweigh the costs as I am better cold-adapted and in better shape because of it.
This is our back yard our yard. The plots on our street are each a half acre or more. We enjoy having neighbors nearby, but also value a big yard for our pup to run around in. There was no fence when we moved in. We could have hired a fence company to install one, but again, I decided to dive into my new environment and do it myself over the warm summer months. It required a lot of grueling physical labor and creativity to design it according to our needs, but it was a great source of exercise for several weeks and felt good to accomplish such a large task with my bare hands.
We get raw milk from a local farmer each week. We make primarily raw yogurts and shakes with it. It has been the best immunity booster I have ever had. The 3 of us usually get a cold each season when winter sets in, but not this year and I attribute it primarily to the raw milk. Raw milk and pasteurized dairy are not at all the same thing. Raw milk still has an array of natural, beneficial bacteria in tact. Your microbiome is made of billions bacteria. It is a shame that such a minute percentage of contaminated or compromised dairy led to pasteurization of almost the entire dairy industry, since pasteurized dairy is not just devoid of any beneficial bacteria, it is harmful to your health. Anyways, I digress. We are extremely grateful to have access to whole, raw dairy.
In the back of the last photo, you may notice a jar of bacon grease. This is our primary cooking fat, along with grass fed butter. Next to it is a jar of Redmonds sea salt, another key to health. Salt and fat were foolishly demonized over the last 70 or so years, but I can say that our health has only improved since making them staples in our diet.
What we avoid in our diets altogether:
-No water-extracted caffeine (coffee or tea)
-No alcohol or other drugs of any kind (pharma or street)
We also get our beef from the farmer and bread from the local bakery, made fresh with minimal ingredients and no preservatives. Eating fresh, local and seasonal is key. We get eggs from our neighbors and plan on getting some chickens of our own in the spring.
We often use our wood burning stove to supplement heat in the winter. Chopping wood is a great workout too.
The supplements I take are basic:
-Vitamin C in large doses (ascorbic acid, nothing fancy- Perhaps I can explain why in another blog)
-Cod liver oil
-Beef liver capsules (grass fed)
Notice, these are all basically real foods (except maybe the vitamin C).
If I had to admit to one "vice" it would probably be dark chocolate. I eat the raw cacao kind daily. Yes, there is some caffeine in chocolate. However, there is also tons of magnesium, pyrroloquinoline quinone, and other beneficial minerals. I really enjoy chocolate, and since it is a food (and not a liquid caffeinated extract), it does not give me the anxiety or heart palpitations that I used to get from coffee.
We do not use wi-fi in our home. Our internet is wired in through Ethernet cables (we have adapters that hook into our computers and devices). It seemed slightly inconvenient at first, but we are used to it now and are happy to not be subjected by the constant bombardment of wi-fi signals in our home. Ironwood is a small, low-tech town. Our street is a few miles out of town and they haven't even come around to installing smart meters yet. We have already added ourselves to the opt-out list for if/when they come around to it.
There's Caden out in the front yard, playing in the snow. He's an extremely healthy and happy child, even during this pandemic.
Sleep is key. We have bedroom in the basement which makes it dark, cold and protected from frequency. I have never slept better in my life. Our bed is inclined, meaning the head of the bed is lifted 6". Look into inclined bed therapy if you're interested in learning about the benefits. We sleep on two 20 gauss Magnetico Sleep Pads. I have written a massive amount about Magnetico, so I'll leave it at that. What you see in the picture is a bed canopy that blocks emf. We purchased the fabric and had it custom made as many on the market do not do much.
The water is pretty clean here (it is worse in town, but luckily we are in the township which sources it's water differently). Angela went through great lengths to find an all glass Berkey filter. Plastics leech and it is important for water to be exposed to sunlight as water and light work together to create energy.
This is our happy pup. He's a miniature boxer (half boxer, half boston terrier). I take him for a walk every day no matter the weather. This has been a good way for me to get outside in nature every day, and he definitely needs the exercise too.
Our cat loves to sleep on the Magneticos. She often ventures down to our bedroom after we wake up to sleep on them for a few hours. She also likes to lie on my chest and purr while I pet her. A purring cat puts off some amazing, healing frequencies. They are hard not to love.
I also workout at a gym in town that was converted from an old auto body shop. I feel like Rocky. I just lift heavy. Most of the time it is empty so I can shut the lights off and turn the music up, which is great.
Hopefully this gives some insight into what I'm personally focused on health-wise these days. I could get into all the science behind each thing, but the truth is the location really makes all the difference. Being healthy in a big city, bathing in wireless frequency much like a smoker wearing an oxygen tank. Nature did it right and the simple things matter. I think having a wife, child, and animals has helped me to be more healthy as I am not so focused on myself.
The big things I suggest for anyone:
-Get a Magnetico Sleep Pad
-Eat local, seasonal and unprocessed food.
-Get in nature (barefoot and exposed to some sunlight when possible).
-Laugh often and sleep well (if you dream that's a good sign).
Avoid the news and all the crazy. Also avoid health gimmicks. There is so much hype out there just to make a buck.
