Two Supplements That Worked

After working in the supplement industry for several years I became very burnt-out on all the craze and hype. I've been out of that world for a while now and am happy to have found two supplements that have really impacted me in a positive way.

The first is Terry Naturally Tri-Iodine. I am big on location based heath. When living on the CA coast I started taking it but it didn't do much so I stopped since I was exposed to so many supplements at the time. I moved to the upper peninsula of Michigan about three years ago. Turns out the further you are form the coast, the less iodine you get. I had been taking a kelp supplement thinking I would be fine with that. I started taking tri-iodine at 3mg and all of a sudden I had more energy to intensify my workouts. So I started lifting heavier. I've been going to the gym since I got here but I had fallen into a maintenance routine without much growth and was not pushing myself. Two days after taking the tri-iodine, my workouts got much better... so I did some research and decided to increase the dose. I currently take 9mg of tri-iodine every day. The internet is full of conflicting "science" so I'm just going to offer my experience. The energy increase I experienced was surprising. The only thing I did differently was the tri-iodine. I suspect this has a lot to do with iodine's hormone regulating effects. The further away from the coast you are, the more you probably need. Once again I've come to the conclusion that your location matters and it is not a one-size fits all remedy.

The second supplement I stumbled upon was TTFD (fat soluble B1) by Objective Nutrients. This came from my oxalate quest that I wrote about in a recent blog. Sally K Norton is a good resource but another is Elliot from EO Nutrtion. (Also, Thanks Joy.) Elliot has put out a lot of info on B1 deficiency and I highly recommend checking it out. I started on 100mg of TTFD and went up to 400mg then added in 300mg of benfotiamine, which is another form of B1. Right away I noticed changes in my sleep; deeper sleep. With these 2 supplement additions I'm sleeping like a rock and lifting weight like I haven't in a very long time. My body composition has changed and I even lost weight which I didn't expect because I recently cycled off my keto/carnivore diet for the summer. Reintroducing carbs causes the body to regain water weight but I'm losing fat and still eating a decent amount because I'm very hungry from all the lifting.  TTFD works with the nerves and it feels like my nervous system is improving. For example, I can handle everyday stress of life, work, and exercise much better. If you are drinking coffee (which I'm not) it depletes you of your body's B1 reserves. B1 also deals in neuro-protection, mitochondria function, and much more, so check it out.

I'm very excited to have some new breakthroughs. If you try either one or both of these please let me know how it goes and what you experience. I recommend starting with a lower dose and working up to your ideal dosage gradually with the TTFD. Hope this information is helpful if you're seeking similar benefits.
